James Barnes, Speaker at NYSBA Elder Law & Special Needs Section Summer Meeting
James Barnes not only attended the NYSBA Elder Law and Special Needs Section Summer Meeting in Ontario Canada, but was a guest speaker at it as well. His topic: Planning and Skills for Chronic Care Medicaid. His session “will teach elder law practitioners already familiar with Medicaid’s financial eligibility parameters the core concepts in Chronic Care Medicaid eligibility. Participants will learn fundamentals concepts of asset transfers and their impact on community based Medicaid benefits as well as the future Chronic Care eligibility, evaluating the benefits and risks associated with life estates in an Irrevocable Medicaid trust. Analysis and introduction of the pros and cons of using joint irrevocable trust or two individual irrevocable trusts for spousal planning, and review of the fundamentals of Promissory Note Planning.”
