NY City protects its caregiver employees…
It is now illegal for employers in New York City to discriminate against someone who has caregiving responsibilities. Effective May 4, 2016, employers are prevented from treating employees or applicants who have caregiving responsibilities differently than those who do not. Employees who (1) are a parent with a child under the age of 18, including adopted or foster children, and provide direct and ongoing care to that child; or (2) provide direct and ongoing care to a parent, sibling, spouse, child (of any age), grandparent, or grandchild with a disability or someone with a disability who lives with that employee, and relies on the employee/applicant for medical care or to meet the needs of daily living are protected from workplace discrimination.
