Planning Basics in Uncertain Times Webinar Series Part I – June 11, 2020
PART I
The reality of COVID-19 has forced people to consider many “what if” scenarios that were previously unthinkable. It is an important time to ensure that your estate planning is securely in place. For many, this presents an opportunity to review past planning, including Wills and other legal documents, and any updates that might be necessary or advisable. If you are unsure of what you should be considering, here are some questions to contemplate:
- What authority and documentation should be in place for someone else to address matters for you during your lifetime, especially during a crisis?
- What are some specific issues to consider relative to both health care and financial decision-making, including Living Wills, Health Care Proxies, Powers of Attorney, and other advance directives?
- What are some best practices to ensure that your estate planning is simple, secure, efficient, and comprehensive? Does your Last Will and Testament address your needs, or would a basic Trust help you to achieve your ultimate goals?
Brookdale Niskayuna Assisted Living has organized this webinar series for the community, the professionals they work with and the families they serve. James Barnes is the speaker conducting the webinar series entitled “Planning Basics in Uncertain Times.” Each of these questions will be discussed in detail, allowing time for personal questions. In addition, we will also cover legislative updates impacting eligibility for Medicaid, as well as legal issues being raised in light of COVID-19 (including options for remote document execution). While following the recommended safety guidelines, you can still create, update, and/or finalize your estate planning from home.
