Michelle I. Casserly, Esq.

Michelle (Shelly) Casserly, Esq. joined Burke & Casserly, P.C. in 2012. Her areas of practice include Estate Planning, Elder Law and Estate Administration. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association. In 2016, Shelly co-authored an article entitled, "Helping Clients Retire Successfully", which was published in the Elder Law and Special Needs Journal published by the Elder Law and Special Needs Section of the New York State Bar Association.

After graduating from law school, Shelly worked in private practice for several law firms in Albany, New York, concentrating in municipal finance, representing both issuers and underwriters in the issuance of tax exempt municipal bonds. In addition to private practice, Shelly also worked as a legal consultant to the Environmental Facilities Corporation, a public benefit corporation providing financial assistance to municipalities through the issuance of municipal bonds. In 1995, Shelly temporarily retired from the practice of law to raise three sons.

Prior to joining Burke & Casserly P.C., Shelly worked for the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeast New York in Development and continues her involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association through volunteering and speaking engagements.

Shelly is a 1984 graduate of Albany Law School of Union University where she earned her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, and earned membership into the Justinian Honor Society for excellence in legal scholarship. Her undergraduate degree is from St. Lawrence University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and in Government.

Shelly is married to Tim Casserly, Co-founder of Burke & Casserly, P.C. They reside in Latham, New York. In her free time Shelly enjoys golf, traveling and spending time with their children and granddaughter.
